 (Before) The desire to make this room warmer as well as including a mantle over the fireplace was the springboard for this redesign. The wood from the base units was repeated in the fireplace facade to unify it. The walls were darkened to subdue the books. In order to create the illusion of a wider room the shelf faces were "fattened up" with the same wood to emphasize their horizontal direction as well as providing extra support for the books. The final touch was surrounding the fireplace and hearth with black slate. |
